Celebrating Purposeful Fundraising During Challenging Times
At Expressions, we’re all about championing ethical fundraising ideas that bring joy, creativity and real results to schools and childcare centres. That's why we’re thrilled to highlight Armadale Early Learning Centre (AELC) in Victoria as the major winner of our 2020 Early Bird Prize Draw!
Despite the challenges early in the year, AELC demonstrated how custom printed tea towels in Australia can transform a simple project into a community-building, funds-raising triumph. By completing their annual school tea towel fundraising project in April, they secured 10 bonus organic cotton tea towels and took home a bonus cheque of $945, a full refund of their project costs!
How Their Ethical Fundraiser Made an Impact
Hywell, the fundraising coordinator at AELC, shared their excitement:
"Thank you for awarding us the refund, we appreciate it and it comes at a time when we've really needed some good news. AELC is a not-for-profit kindergarten managed by a committee of volunteers. The building and land are owned by the City of Stonnington. At the centre we aim to develop and extend indivudual children socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. This year, as we all deal with these challenging times, the Expressions early bird win has given us much needed good news.
The funds we received will go a long way in making sure that our kinder and our team will be able to support our students. Our teaching team, volunteer committee, families and children thank Expressions for drawing our wee kindergarten. Plus our tea towels which don't only look great, they are a novel momento of this year!"
AELC, a not-for-profit kindergarten led by a dedicated volunteer committee, used their refunded funds to continue delivering the high standard of support their children deserve. Their success story is a testament to the power of ethical fundraising ideas that go beyond financial gains—they foster pride, connection and creative expression.

FAQs About School Tea Towel Fundraising
How does tea towel fundraising work?
Each child creates a unique artwork (like a drawing or handprint), which we compile into a tea towel design. These are printed and sold to families and supporters, raising funds for your school or centre.
Are the tea towels organic?
Yes! We use high-quality, organic cotton and cotton/linen blend tea towels to ensure a sustainable and ethically made product.
Can we customise the designs?
Absolutely. Choose from a range of layouts, themes, borders and more. You can even include your school logo or class list.
Is there a minimum order?
We cater to both small and large groups. Minimum orders are 40 per unique design — see our Options page for details. Please note for designs with 250+ drawings there is a minimum order of 100 units.
Do we need to pay upfront?
No upfront costs! You only pay for what you sell, making it a risk-free option for fundraising organisers.
